ALAMOSA, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team dropped its third RMAC match of the season falling in five sets at Adams State Saturday (Oct. 17).
The Mavs led in nearly every statistical category in the match; kills (53-45), attack percentage (.153 to .121), assists (51-43), aces (4-2) and digs (55-46). The Grizzlies led 16-9 in blocks.
"Tonight was frustrating," said head coach
Dave Fleming. "They out played, out worked and out coached us. They deserved the win."
The Mavericks started strong hitting a match-high .500 with 13 kills to earn a 25-9 win in the first.
Mesa tallied 11 kills in the second, but 11 errors led to a 25-20 win for Adams in the second.
The offensive errors carried over to the third. CMU accumulated eight errors with 11 kills falling 25-22 in the third.
In a must win fourth set, the Mavs hit .414 with 14 kills and only two errors to win 25-15 and force a fifth set.
Adams won the final set 15-4. ASU hit .455 with five kills and no errors. CMU hit a match-low -.222 with four kills and eight errors.
Caitie Breaux earned the double-double with a match-high 14 kills and 12 digs.
Abby Ney tallied 11 kills and team-highs in block assists (six) and aces (three).
Taylor Woods finished with a match-high 20 digs, and
Ali Svorinic recorded a match-high 46 assists.
Colorado Mesa (10-9, 8-3) will host UCCS Friday (Oct. 23).
