DURANGO, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team earned its third straight win with a three set sweep at Fort Lewis Friday (Oct. 16).
The Mavs defense held the Skyhawks to 20 kills and a .029 attack percentage for the match.
CMU dominated offensively hitting .287 with 48 kills. Mesa led in assists (43-16), aces (5-3), digs (61-41) and blocks (6-3).
The Mavs won the first set 25-18 after hitting .205 and holding the Skyhawks to a .044 attack percentage.
The CMU defense dominated the second set to win 25-11. FLC hit -.038 and only recorded three kills. By comparison, CMU hit .324 with 16 kills.
Mesa completed the sweep with a 25-17 win in the third, hitting a match-high .351 with a match-high 18 kills.
"That was awesome tonight," said
Audrey Steinkirchner who finished with a match-high 17 kills. "The team did an amazing job coming together and grinding it out until we had the perfect opportunity to terminate. We stayed disciplined and aggressive, which worked to our advantage and contributed to the win."
Caitie Breaux tallied the only double-double in the match for CMU with 13 kills and 11 digs.
Audrey Steinkirchner finished with a match-high 17 kills.
Ali Svorinic recorded 39 of Mesa's 43 assists, and
Taylor Woods made a match-high 14 digs and two service aces.
Erin Perez contributed 10 digs and eight kills for CMU.
CMU improves to 10-8 overall and 8-2 in RMAC play.
Colorado Mesa will play at Adams State Saturday (Oct. 17).
