Box ScoreGRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team defeated Dixie State 6-3 to open the CMU Duals Thursday (Oct. 1).
"Today was a good team win for the Mavericks," said head coach
Dan MacDonald. "This was good experience for the freshmen, and the seniors provided great leadership. We hope to carry this success throughout the weekend."
The Mavericks earned a pair of doubles wins at No. 1 and 3.
Frederikke Karst and
Emily Dodson defeated Lacey Hancock and Jenna Fosdick 8-2 at No. 1.
Emily Beckley and
Amy Beeston earned an 8-2 win over Samantha Yacano and Kaylee Tarver at No. 3.
The Red Storm's two singles wins came at No. 1 and 2, but the Mavericks won the final four.
Michelle Phillips defeated Laura Hartle 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3.
Emily Beckley collected a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 over Jenna Fosdick.
At No. 5,
Amy Beeston downed Samantha Yacano 6-0, 6-2.
Taylor Hershey defeated Kaylee Tarver 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
The women will host MSU Denver Friday (Oct. 2) at 2:30 pm.
