GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University men's basketball team shot 58-percent from the field in an 82-56 win over Regis Saturday (Jan. 24).

The Mavericks shot 65-percent (17-26) from the floor in the first half outscoring the Rangers 45-30. Even more outstanding than the Mavericks field goal shooting was its shooting from deep. CMU shot 70-percent (7-of-10) from 3-point land.

Jerry Duckworth made his first six shots of the game, including four 3-pointers, on his way to 18 points.

The Mavericks shot 52-percent (15-29) in the second half outscoring the Rangers 37-26.

Ryan Stephen finished with a game-high 34 points.

Julian Vasquez was one point and one rebound shy of a double-double. He added five assists.

10 different players scored for CMU.

The Maverick defense created 13 turnovers which led to 20 points. CMU held RU to 39-percent (21-53) from the field for the game.

Derek Biale finished with seven points and dished out eight assists, one shy of the school record.

Kevin Marshall led Regis with 12 points.

Mesa dominated the glass finishing with a 37-21 edge in rebounds, including a 10-7 mark on the offensive glass. The Mavs outscored the Rangers 14-4 in second chance points.
