PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University men's and women's tennis teams closed out the weekend with losses to Neb.-Kearney and wins over Texas Permian Basin Saturday (Sept. 13).
The men defeated Texas Permian Basin 5-4 and fell to Neb.-Kearney 8-1.
Cody Freischlag and Andres Garcia-Rojas won at No. 2 doubles against UTPB 8-5. The duo would also win each of their singles matches. Freischlag earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 5, and Garcia-Rojas won at No. 3 6-0, 6-2. Cody Freischlag earned the lone win against UNK with a marathon win, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 11-0, at No. 5 singles. The women's team posted a 7-2 win over Permian Basin and a 7-2 loss to Neb.-Kearney.
Natalie Martin won both of her singles matches defeating Shelby Greene of UTPB 6-2, 6-0 and Kristin Weems of UNK 6-3, 6-4. Martin teamed up with Katie Kirby for a 9-8 (3) win at No. 1 doubles against UTPB. Kirby won 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (9-7) at No. 3 singles.
Michelle Phillips also posted a pair of singles wins at No. 5 with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Yuez Sanchez of UTPB and a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Kari Emery of UNK. Both teams will compete at Metro State next weekend (Sept. 20-21).
