PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's tennis team opened the 2014-15 season with an 8-1 win over Fort Hays State in non-conference action Friday (Sept. 12).
The Mavericks started the match by sweeping all three doubles matches.
Natalie Martin and
Katie Kirby defeated Camille Caron-Bedard and Reinette Strydom 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Rachel McLaughlin and
Emily Dodson posted an 8-5 decision at No. 2 doubles over Brittney Ricci and Katie Hipp.
Michelle Phillips and
Amy Beeston downed Taylor Stout and Jessica Johnson 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
The Tigers lone win of the day came at No. 1 singles. Camille Caron-Bedard defeated
Natalie Martin 6-2, 6-4.
Rachel McLaughlin dropped the first set 6-4 to Brittney Ricci at No. 2 singles. McLaughlin won the next two sets 7-5 and 10-5 to take the match.
Emily Dodson posted a dominating win at No. 4 singles over Reinette Strydom 6-0, 6-1.
Michelle Phillips defeated Katie Hipp 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
Amy Beeston bested Taylor Stout 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
CMU (1-0) will face Neb.–Kearney and Texas Permian Basin Saturday (Sept. 12).
