Game Notes in PDFLady Buff Classic In Review
The Mavericks are coming off a dominant season opening series at the Lady Buff Classic. Colorado Mesa University went 4-0 Â and did not even lose a set while in Canyon, Texas. They recorded wins over Eastern New Mexico, No. 6 ranked West Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Truman State.
Mavs Named to All-Tournament Team
After posting 81 assists on the weekend without a ball handling error,
Jordyn Moody was named the tournaments most valuable player.
Melissa Hess and
Abby Ney were also named to the All-Tournament team. Hess combined for 21 kills and hit over .400 in both matches on Saturday. Ney finished the day with 17 kills.Â

Senior
Melissa Hess was named the seasons first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week. While at the Lady Buff Classic, she hit at a .448 clip and had 3.83 kills per set to earn her All-Tournament accolades.Â
Mavs Miss Top 25
After sweeping the weekend in dominating fashion, the Mavericks are still in the receiving votes category of the AVCA Top 25 National Poll. The Mavericks went 4-0 without losing a set at the Lady Buff Classic. One of those wins even came against West Texas A&M who was ranked No. 6 in the nation at the time.Â

All of the Mavericks opponents this week are either ranked in the top 25 or are receiving votes. Â The University of Central Missouri is currently ranked No. 5. Â The Regis Rangers received 25 votes. Southwest Minnesota State has a National rank of 10. The final opposition for the Mavericks is seven time defending National Champions and current No. 1 Concordia St. Paul.
#5 University of Central Missouri Jennies
The No. 5 ranked Jennies come into the Colorado Premier Challenge after going 3-1 last weekend at the Tampa Spartans Classic. They defeated No. 24 ranked Indianapolis, No. 13 Ferris State, and Tusculum all in straight sets. The only loss they had was to the No. 2 ranked team in the country Tampa. The defending MIAA Conference Champions are expecting to win it again.The Jennies have bring back key returners in Carly Sojka and Haley Thompson. This will be the foruth time the Mavs have faced Central Missouri. Â The last time was in 2009 where they lost in three sets.Â
Regis Rangers
The Regis Rangers return home to host the Colorado Premier Challenge after traveling to Canyon,Texas for the Lady Buff Challenge. They had a successful weekend going 3-1 including a win over No. 6 ranked West Texas A&M. They also beat Texas A&M-Commerce and Truman. The only loss they had was Texas Woman's. After finishing the 2013 season 13-6 in conference and 18-13 overall, they are picked to finish third in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Senior Maya Kirkeby is picked as the conference preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Caitie Breaux and Katie Klein were also named to the preseason All-RMAC team.Â
#10 Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs
The Mustangs arrive in Denver after finishing 2-2 at the Concordia-St. Paul Tournament last weekend. They lost to Wheeling Jesuit and No. 1 ranked Concordia-St. Paul before beating Ashland and Missouri S&T.  Last year's 24 -8 record marked the team's eleventh straight year of achieving  at least 20 wins.  Junior Abbey Thissen is a player to watch as she was a first team  All-NSIC  honoree  and AVCA honorable mention All-American a year ago. The Mustangs are picked to finish third behind Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota Duluth respectively in the NSIC conference. The Mavs are 2-3 overall against the Mustangs. They last played in 2010 where Colorado Mesa lost in three sets.Â
#1 Concordia-St. Paul Golden BearsÂ
For an eleventh consecutive year, the Golden Bears are picked to win the NSIC conference.  The seven time reigning National Champions have gone 193-7 over the past eleven years. Last season, they went 19-1 to edge out Minnesota Duluth by one game to win the conference. A player to watch for the Golden Bears  is outside hitter Emily McDonugh. Last year as a Sophomore, Mcdonough  was an All-NSIC First Teamer and and AVCA All-America honorable mention member.  They swept their season opening tournament with wins over Ashland, No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State University, No. 17 Wheeling Jesuit, and Missouri S&T. The Mavericks have only played the Golden Bears. The Mavs lost  in straight sets in 2007.Â
