Mavericks Improve to 23-0 at Home

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa swept a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader from the visiting Colorado Christian Cougars on Friday afternoon at Suplizio Field. The 17th ranked Mavericks won by scores of 13-2 and 14-1 in a pair of seven inning games.
 
In game one, Colorado Christian scored a pair of runs in the first inning before the Mavericks tallied 13 unanswered runs in a 13-2 win. The Mavericks exploded for seven runs on five hits in the fourth inning.
 
Garrett Carpenter finished the game 3-for-3 with a run scored and two runs driven in while Tony Audino went 2-for-2 with four runs driven in and a double.
 
Staff ace Matt Delay pitched five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits, walked one and struck out three to earn his fifth win of the season. Delay threw 66 pitches in the game before giving way to the bullpen.
 
In the night cap, Jordan Liester's three-run home run broke up a 0-0 tie in the fourth inning in a 14-1 win for Colorado Mesa. The Mavericks hammered out 18 hits, including four for extra bases, in the win.
 
Liester finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three runs driven in.
 
Sergio Valenzuela, Austin Kaiser and Austin Wallingford all finished the game with three hits.
 
Joey Danner pitched a complete game and allowed one run on three hits, walked three and struck out three to earn his sixth win of the season. Danner allowed the only run of the game in the seventh inning.
 
The Mavericks will look to finish the regular season undefeated when they face the Cougars on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm. Tomorrow is also Grand Valley Baseball Appreciation Day and Senior Day.
