Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The 17
th ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team improved to 21-0 at home after a 14-4 win over the Colorado Christian Cougars on Thursday evening at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks scored four runs in the second inning and six in the seventh en route to the win.
Colorado Mesa scored their 14 runs on 15 hits which included eight doubles in the game. They also stole nine bases in the game.
Kevin Mitchell went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a run driven in. Mitchell hit a pair of doubles in the Mavericks six run seventh inning and stole his first base of the season in the game.
Sergio Valenzuela and
Jordan Liester each hit two doubles in the game as well.
Shortstop
Nate Robertson finished the game 1-for-3 with four runs scored and four stolen bases.
On the mound,
Tyler Dunnington received his first career start and pitched well. Dunnington went five innings and allowed two runs on four hits, walked three and struck out three to earn his first win of the season.
Dunnington entered the game with just 4.1 innings pitched with an ERA over 12.00. He now has a 7.72 ERA.
Four relievers combined to finish the final four innings of the game.
The Mavericks and Cougars will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 3:30pm at Suplizio Field.
