SCOUTING THE RANGERS
After being swept the openiong weekend of the season by South Central Region foe Tarleton State, the Rangers rebounded winning four straight. They split the opening weekend of RMAC with Colorado Mines in a weather shortened series.
The Rangers are a veteran group in the field and at the plate. They have mainstays Tony Piazza and Jon Shoutta in the middle of their order. Piazza leads the team with a .364 batting average and Shoutta led the RMAC in homeruns two years ago.
Sophomore Kirby Schwein is the ace of the Regis staff. He has thrwon nearly ten more innings than the nearest teammate on the staff.
FRESHMAN
Five freshman have seen playing time this season so far. Each of them have contributed when in the game. Against Colorado Christian,
Kevan Elcock,
Trevor Elcock, and
Kyle Serrano each hit doubles while
Jake Druce drove in his first run of his collegiate career.
SHUTOUTS
Senior
Joey Danner has thrown two shutouts so far this season. He won a 1-0 battle with Dixie State in the Mavericks opening series of the season then he threw five innings in a shutout win over Colorado Christian. Danner is 2-1 this season with a 3.21 ERA.
ROTATION
Colorado Mesa will go with the same projected pitchers as last weekend but in a different order. Junior
Matt Delay will get the ball in game one with senior
Kyle Davis making his 26th start of his career in game two.
Joey Danner will take the mound in game three with lefty
Nevin Wilson closing out the series on Monday.
LEADING OFF
Junior outfielder
Sergio Valenzuela batted leadoff in the Mavericks two games last weekend. Valenzuela hit .571 and stole two bases in the series. The leadoff spot in the lineup has a .429 batting average, three doubles and a homerun.
ON DECK
Colorado Mesa will continue its home stand with a four-game series with Colorado Mines at Suplizio Field on March 14-16. First pitch on the 14th is scheduled for 3:30pm.Â
