Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo. – Colorado Mesa split a mid-week doubleheader at Auraria Field on the campus of Metro State University. The Mavericks fell to Metro State 9-7 in the first game and then went on to defeat CSU-Pueblo in the nightcap 7-2.
In game one, Colorado Mesa took a 6-0 lead after four and a half innings. But, Metro State answered with six runs in the fifth, one in the seventh and two in the eighth to win 9-7.
Colorado Mesa outhit the Roadrunners 15-12 but hit into three double plays and stranded 11 runners on base.
Nate Robertson finished the game 4-for-6 with two runs driven in and
Austin Kaiser went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Cody Lahman took the loss in relief and fell to 1-1 on the season.
Daryl Baca went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs driven in for the Roadrunners.
In game two, the Mavericks scored five runs in the second and two runs in the eighth in a 7-2 win. CMU finished with ten hits and stranded just six runners in the game.
Trent Allianic started his first career game for the Mavericks. He went five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, walked two and struck out three to pick up his first win.
Matt Allen pitched the final four innings and picked up his first save. Allen went four innings and gave up just two hits while striking out five.
Catcher
Colton Schoelkopf went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs driven in.
Garrett Carpenter and Robertson each finished with two hits.
Mario Sanchez finished with two hits for CSU-Pueblo.
Colorado Mesa will get back into RMAC action this weekend at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks will play Adams State in a four-game series beginning on Friday night at 6:05pm.
