Baseball Completes Sweep

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Colorado Mesa baseball team extended its winning streak to nine games after defeating Colorado School of Mines 7-1 Sunday (March 16). The series sweep was the third sweep of the season for the Mavericks who improve to 15-3 overall and 10-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. 

In the first inning Garrett Carpenter stole third and then scored CMU's first run of the game after a wild throw by the catcher. Tony Audino would drive in a run later in the inning to give the Mavs an early 2-0 lead.

Mesa manufactured four runs in the sixth with four hits and the help of two errors by the Orediggers. 

Mines scored its lone run of the game with three singles in the seventh inning. 

Mesa out-hit Mines 8-6 in the contest and the Mavericks did not commit an error. 

Austin Kaiser led the Mavericks at the plate batting 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Jason Ross was 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored. 

Kyle Davis struckout eight and gave up five hits and one run in seven innings of work to earn his second win of the season.

Christian Rooney gave up seven hits and seven runs, five earned, in the loss for Mines. 

Mesa will play at New Mexico Highlands March 21-23.
