Mavericks Complete Four-Game Sweep of Dixie State

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The 16th ranked Colorado Mesa University baseball team scored four runs in the first and three runs in the seventh to complete a four-game sweep of the Dixie State Red Storm 7-5 on Sunday afternoon at Suplizio Field.

In the Mavericks four run first inning, Austin Kaiser blasted the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to give CMU an early 1-0 lead. The homerun was Kaiser's first of his career.

Later in the inning, Tony Audino laced a bases clearing double to right center to put the Mavericks ahead 4-0. The double was Audino's third of the weekend.

Dixie State answered back with five unanswered runs and took a 5-4 lead heading to the seventh inning.

The Mavericks had the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth inning but failed to score. They had them loaded again in the seventh inning after an 11 pitch walk by Kaiser. The next batter, Garrett Carpenter, punched a two-run single to center field to put the Mavericks up for good.

Cody Lahman picked up the win for Colorado Mesa in relief while Dakota Behr closed it out and picked up his second save of the season.

Nate Robertson finished the game with two hits.

Colorado Mesa will be on the road next weekend when they take on Division I Northern Colorado in Greeley.
