Colorado Mesa Sweeps Dixie State in Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University baseball team swept a doubleheader from the visiting Dixie State Red Storm by scores of 2-0 and 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Supllzio Field. The Mavericks picked up back-to-back shutouts for the first time since the middle of last season.
 
In the opener, Colorado Mesa scored single runs in the second and third innings and limited the Red Storm to just two hits in the 2-0 win.
 
Tony Audino hit an RBI single in the second and Nate Robertson belted his first homerun of the season to give the Mavericks their two runs. Audino was the only Maverick to finish with multiple hits.
 
Nevin Wilson got the start and went 4.2 innings and didn't allow a hit but threw 109 pitches. Wilson gave way to reliever Matt Allen who delivered in a big way. Allen pitched 4.1 innings and allowed just two hits while striking out three to earn his first win of his career.
 
In the night cap, the Red Storm outhit the Mavericks but was unable to force one across the plate. They were thrown out at the plate in the second inning and stranded five runners on base.
 
Colorado Mesa got its lone run on a solo homerun by senior first baseman Kennedy Kinkade in the fifth inning. The homerun was Kinkade's first of the season and sailed over the 335 sign in left field.
 
Joey Danner picked up the win going six complete innings and allowed five hits and struck out three. Dakota Behr threw a perfect final inning to earn his first save.
 
Colorado Mesa will complete the four-game series on Sunday with a single nine-inning game beginning at 12:00pm at Suplizio Field.
