Jerry Duckworth scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Colorado Mesa University men's basketball team to an 80-58 win at Black Hills State Saturday (Dec. 6). Duckworth was nearly unstoppable from deep shooting 7-of-10 from behind the arc.
The Mavericks would lead from start to finish in the contest in which they shot 51-percent (26-51) from the field and a season-high 79-percent (15-19) from the line.
Mesa held a 35-25 at halftime before outscoring Black Hills 45-33 over the final 20 minutes thanks to Duckworth who scored 19 of his 27 points in the second half.
Ryan Stephan finished with 23 points and was perfect from the free throw line making all 11 attempts. He also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out three assists.
Derek Biale was the third Maverick scoring in double figures finishing with 10 points in addition to a game-high six assists.
CMU did a good job defensively holding BHSU to 38-percent (20-52) shooting from the field.
The Mavericks enjoyed a 35-25 edge in rebounds.
Brady Bisgaard led the Yellow Jackets with 12 points.
CMU (6-2, 1-1) will host Western New Mexico Dec. 12.
