Jerry Duckworth scored 24 points to lead the Colorado Mesa University men's basketball team to an 82-42 win over Western New Mexico Friday (Dec. 12).
Duckworth shot 9-of-13 from the field and 6-of-10 from deep. He finished with 19 of his 24 points in the first half.
The Mavericks controlled the game from the beginning leading 46-16 at the break. CMU would outscore WNMU 36-26 over the final 20 minutes.
Ryan Stephen finished with 14 points, including a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Stephan has made 21 straight free throws with his last miss coming at Chadron State a week ago.
All 12 Maverick players who appeared in the game scored. CMU finished with a 34-4 edge in points in the paint. CMU also scored 21 points off 17 turnovers by WNMU.
Mesa shot 52-percent (29-55) from the field and held Western to 27-percent (13-48).
Colorado Mesa dominated the boards finishing with a 44-24 edge. The Mavericks 44 rebounds were a season-high.
Brandon Williams was the lone Mustang in double figures finishing with 12.
The Mavericks tallied a season-high 11 steals.
CMU (7-2, 2-1) will host New Mexico Highlands Saturday (Dec. 13).
