ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team survived an early onslaught from the Adams State Grizzlies but was able to pull away in the end in a 75-58 win on Sunday afternoon at Plachy Hall.
The Grizzlies led by as many as ten at the 13:16 mark of the first half when they led 17-7. They led for nearly 20 minutes of the contest and had a two point halftime lead, 33-31.
Turnovers plagued the Mavericks in the first half where they coughed it up 18 times. They controlled the ball better in the second half with only five turnovers. The 23 turnovers in the game led to 26 points for Adams State.
Erin Reichle led all scorers with 27 points and finished the game 6-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Reichle and the Mavericks shot 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from behind the three-point line. They shot 60 percent (24-of-40) from the field in the game.
Shanna Halalilo recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She also handed out three assists.
Leanndra Gilbert finished the night with 16 points.
Desiree Anderson led Adams State with 15 points and six rebounds.
Colorado Mesa improves to 8-2 on the season and 5-1 in the RMAC. They are currently in a first place tie atop the RMAC standings.
The Mavericks will be off until after the New Year. They will play Colorado Mines and Colorado Christian on Jan. 2-3 in Brownson Arena with both games starting at 5:30pm.
