DURANGO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University men's basketball scored a season-high 94 points in a 94-88 win at Fort Lewis Saturday (Dec. 20).
The Skyhawks led for the majority of the first half, but the Mavericks would make a 3-pointer on four of its final six possessions of the half to lead 45-41 at the break.
The Mavericks went on a 21-4 run early in the second half for its biggest lead of the game at 18 points, 74-56, with 7:31 remaining.
Fort Lewis would fight back cutting the lead to four points twice in the final 70 seconds. Colorado Mesa, who shot 69-percent (18-26) from the line, drained its final seven free throws to secure the win.
Ryan Stephan led the team in scoring for the eighth time this season scoring 21 points shooting 9-of-16 from the field. He grabbed 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
Jerry Duckworth came off the bench to score 19 points shooting 4-of-6 from deep.
Nate Hawley scored a career-high 11 points shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from deep.
Landon Vermeer added 12 points, and
Derek Biale chipped in 11.
Alex Herrera led Fort Lewis with a game-high 27 points.
The Mavericks enjoyed a strong night offensively shooting 58-percent (32-55) from the field and 52-percent (12-23) from 3-point.
The CMU defense also did its part holding FLC to 43-percent (28-65) from the field and 30-percent (9-30) from deep.
CMU (9-2, 4-1) will play at Adams State Sunday (Dec. 21).
