LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The No. 13 Colorado Mesa volleyball team won their 12
th straight match when they blew by the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls in straight sets this evening.
The scoring went back and forth between the Mavs and Cowgirls throughout the early part of the first set. The two teams would find themselves knotted at nine before an
Abby Ney kill would give CMU the lead. An attack error by New Mexico Highlands would put the Mavs up by five with a score of 15-10. Colorado Mesa would go on to take ten of the next thirteen points to take the set by a score of 25-15.
Coming off the momentum of their first set win, Colorado Mesa jumped out to the early 10-1 advantage. CMU took 13 of the first 17 points in the game. With the 19-9 lead over the Cowgirls, the Mavericks would find themselves up by 10. Colorado Mesa would hold at least an eight point lead throughout the rest of the game. A blast from
Megan Gianinetti would give CMU the 25-16 win and take a 2-0 lead over New Mexico Highlands.
Unlike the in the second game, New Mexico Highlands was able to keep pace with the Mavs early on in the set. With Colorado Mesa up seven to six, a one timer from
Audrey Steinkirchner would get the Mavs going. They would then take the next four points to lead 11-6. Following a New Mexico Highlands timeout, the Cowgirls would take five of the next seven points to bring the score within three. The Mavericks would then go on a run and take the set 25-18, giving Colorado Mesa the three nil sweep.
Abby Ney hit an astounding .786 with 11 kills on the evening.
Melissa Hess's team-high 12 kills were good for a .529 hit percentage. Both players tallied 13 points as well.
Erin Perez and
Jordyn Moody both recorded three service aces each.
Jordyn Moody also had 26 assists.Â
Tiffany Petersen led the team with 10 digs. As a team the Mavs hit .330 while limiting the Cowgirls to a .134 hit percentage. Colorado Mesa out-dug New Mexico Highlands 41 to 29.

th straight when they take on Western New Mexico tomorrow (Nov. 1) at 7 pm in Silver City.
