LAKEWOOD, Colorado –
Roy Abergil notched the first hat trick in Colorado Mesa men's soccer history in a 4-0 win over the Colorado Christian Cougars on Friday afternoon at Trailblazer Stadium. The win was the Mavericks eighth in a row and it was their fifth shutout in a row.
Abergil got the Mavericks on the board in the first half with a goal in the 15
th minute of the match. The goal ended up being his sixth game-winner of the season, keeping him among the nation's best.
He scored a pair of goals to give him the first hat trick in program history.
Not to be out done,
Nestor Escobar scored a goal in the first half on a free kick to give Colorado Mesa a 2-0 lead. Escobar also added an assist on
Roy Abergil's second goal of the match.
Micah Conrads got the start in goal and made three saves and faced a total of five shots in the match. The shutout was his fifth of the season.
The win, coupled with a UCCS tonight, would clinch the Mavericks a spot in the RMAC Tournament. UCCS plays Metro State tonight at 7:00pm.
The Mavericks will play host to Fort Lewis a week from today at Walker Field.
