GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Kent Olson-Stavrakas led the Colorado Mesa swimming and diving teams with a pair of wins against Div. I Missouri State Tuesday (Jan. 7). The Littleton, Colo., native won the 50 (21.07) and the 100 free (46.23).
The Mavericks also had a swimmer place third in both events,
Justin Hastings in the 50 (21.87) and
Joshua Scheuermann in the 100 (48.26). Scheuermann added a third place finish in the 200 free (1:51.75).
In the distance events,
Jarren Brinton finished second in the 500 (4:50.41) and fourth in 1,000 (9:47.97).
Jeremy Pacheco was third for CMU in the 1,000 (4:55.35).
CMU had three men finish second,
Thomas Stutzriem in the 100 breast (59.32), Robb Eisendrath in the 100 back (54.44) and Zach Andregg in the 100 fly (53.20).
Maddie Wigg led the Mavericks in the distance events finishing second in the 500 free (5:37.15) and third in the 1,000 (11:25.83).
Katherine Gerstmar was one spot behind Wigg in both the 500 (5:42.69) and the 1,000 (11:40.82).
Eryn Leonard posted a pair of top-three finishes on the day, finishing second in the 100 fly (1:01.30) and third in the 200 free (1:58.54).
CMU had three women finish second:
Brianna Bearden in the 100 back (1:04.49),
Annie Jones in the 100 free (58.89) and Katie Thompson (1:13.73).
The meet also featured several non-traditional events. The Mavericks finished second and third in both the men's and women's 100 free relays. CMU also finished third in both the men's and women's 800 medley relays.
"Today's meet gave us an idea of who did what they were supposed to over the holiday break and those who didn't," said head coach
Ron Allen.
Both teams will head to Florida Wednesday (Jan. 8) for several days of training and competition.Â
