The Colorado Mesa University baseball team opened up the NCAA South Central Regional with a 6-2 win over the St. Mary's Rattlers at Nolan Ryan Field in Kingsville, Texas.
The Mavericks fell behind 2-0 after the first inning but came back with four runs in the fourth inning and one in each of the sixth and eighth innings in the win.
The CMU four run fourth was highlighted by a
Nate Robertson solo shot to leadoff the inning and a three-run homer by
Justin Rosales that just snuck inside the foul pole down the left field line. It was Robertson's fifth of the season and Rosales'sixth.
Rosales finished the game 3-for-4 with four runs driven in.
The homeruns were the first two allowed by St. Mary's starter Rene Solis. Solis was a 2012 All-American pitcher and finalit for the Tino Martinez Award given to the top player in NCAA Division II baseball.
After an erratic first inning, Maverick starter
Matt Williams settled into the game and did what he has done all year, pitch deep into games. Williams went the distance and allowed just the two runs on walked four and struck out eight. He allowed only one runner to reach third base after the first inning.
Williams improved his record to 9-1 on the season.

Chris Hanks hit a coaching milestone with the win. It was his 600th win of his career.
The Mavericks move onto to play the St. Edwards Hilltoppers at 6:00pm (MDT) tomorrow at Nolan Ryan Field in Kingsville, Texas. The Hilltoppers defeated Angelo State 5-4 in the tournaments opening game.
