The Colorado Mesa University baseball team advanced to the final day of the RMAC Tournament after an 11-2 win over New Mexico Highlands on Saturday afternoon at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks scored runs in the first five innings of the game on their way to their 43rd victory of the season. New Mexico Highands' record falls to 28-23 on the season and will now await the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday night at 8pm to find out if they did enough to get into the NCAA Tournament.

The Mavericks got another quality start from their pitching staff. Junior Kyle Davis got the start and pitched eight innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked four and struck out a career high 13. Davis didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning and threw 130 pitches.

Davis moved his record to 8-0 on the season and 16-0 in his Colorado Mesa career. He lowered his ERA on the season to 2.86.

Davis got plenty of help from his offense. Braden Box and Colton Schoelkopf each finished the game with three hits. Box went 3-for-6 in the game with a run scored, an RBI and stole his 23rd base of the season. Schoelkopf finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and his fifth double of the season.

Centerfielder Garrett Carpenter extended his hitting streak to 23 games on the season. Carpenter singled in the second inning and finished the game 1-for-3 with three runs driven in.

Senior Erik Kozel also extended his own streak. Kozel has now reached base in 26 straight games after going 2-for-4 with his league leading 19 hit-by-pitch of the season.

Colorado Mesa will face CSU-Pueblo tomorrow regardless of the outcome of the night game. First pitch will be at 12:00pm from Suplizio Field.
