Mavs net RMAC victories over Cougars, T-Wolves

Colorado Mesa women's tennis team improved to 3-1 in league play with back-to-back road wins over Colorado Christian, 8-1 and at CSU-Pueblo 6-3.

CMU opened the weekend on Thursday afternoon in Lakewood beating the Cougars 8-1 sweeping the three doubles matches for an early jump. The Mavericks won five of the six singles matches in straight sets to seal the 8-1 win. CCU's number one singles player, Kara Williams defeated CMU's number one player, Kaylee Davis, 6-4, 6-2.

Friday afternoon at City Park in Pueblo the Mavericks defeated the ThunderWolves 6-3. CMU took an early lead clinching 2 of the 3 doubles matches to begin the dual. Skyler Nelson and Kristyn Wykert won 8-1 at number two doubles and Katie Metz and Emily Dodson posted an 8-2 win at number three doubles.

In singles action CMU won 4 of the 6 matches to hold off the T-Wolves 6-3. Kaylee Davis (#1), Shannen McNamara (#2), Kristyn Wykert (#3) and Nicole Lessley (#4) each won straight set singles matches for the Mavericks. CSUP won at number four singles in a hard-fought three set match. The T-Wolves' number 5 singles player notched the third dual point.

CMU and Western New Mexico will face off on Saturday morning in Pueblo. The match will take place at City Park, beginning at 9 am. At 2:30 in the afternoon CMU will play a non-league match at Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
