The Colorado Mesa University baseball team continued their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series with the Regis Rangers on Saturday afternoon at Suplizio Field. The two teams played a doubleheader with the Mavericks winning the first game 6-2 and the Rangers picking up the win in the second game 8-4. Colorado Mesa is now 36-7 on the year and 30-3 in the RMAC while the second place Rangers fell to 22-15 on the season and 18-13 in RMAC games.
In game one, the Mavericks fell behind 2-0 after three innings but tallied three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth in a 6-2 win over Regis. The Mavericks defeated one of the top pitchers in the RMAC in Ranger Steven Brault. Brault came into the contest as the RMAC leader in both ERA and strikeouts.
Catcher
Erik Kozel finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored and two runs driven in. Kozel pushed his batting average the .400 mark for the season and stole his 19th base of the season.
Senior
Matt Williams got he start on the mound and worked out of trouble through the early portion of the game. Williams picthed the complete game and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits, walked three and struck out seven in picking up his sixth win of the season.
In the nightcap, the Rangers benefitted from double plays in the first, fourth, and seventh innings to kill Maverick rallies and picked up an 8-4 win in the ball game. Colorado Mesa could only must three runs in the second and one in the seventh in the game.
Braden Box and
Jake Kluge each had three hits in the contest. Box stole his 19th base of the season.
Colton Little hit a solo-homerun in the seventh, his third of the season.
The two teams will finish their series with a single nine-inning game tomorrow at 12:00pm from Suplizio Field.
