Colorado Mesa women's tennis team fell to No. 1 seed Western New Mexico 5-2 in the 2013 RMAC Women's Tennis Championships on Sunday morning at the Elliott Tennis Center on the campus of Colorado Mesa University.
Western New Mexico took an early lead winning 2 of 3 doubles matches from the Mavericks CMU's Kristyn Wykert and Skyler Nelson erased a 7-2 deficit to win at number two doubles, 9-8. The duo won the pro-set tiebreak, 7-5. Emily Dodson and Katie Metz lost a close match, 9-7 at number three doubles.
The Mustangs added to their 2-1 lead with wins at number one singles but he Mavericks closed the gap to 2-3 with a win by Emily Dodson at number five singles. Dodson beat Diamond Morrill 6-2, 6-3. Dodson's win would be the only singles point the Mavericks would register.
WNMU clinched the dual and the title with victories at number two singles and number four singles.
Western New Mexico will advance to the NCAA South Central Region with the automatic bid as RMAC Champions.
