Mavericks go 2-1 at Dixie Duals, fall to #12 Cameron

Colorado Mesa women's tennis team posted a 2-1 record at the Dixie Duals in St. George, Utah. CMU returned home on Sunday to host #12-ranked Cameron University. The Mavs fell 8-1 to the Aggies.

CMU defeated host Dixie State on Thursday, 8-1. The Mavericks opened the dual sweeping the doubles matches for a 3-0 lead. The Red Storm won just one of the six singles matches as the Mavericks dominated play winning four of the five matches in straight sets.

Friday morning CMU fell to #30-ranked Academy of Art. The Urban Knights defeated CMU without giving up a set in the six singles matches and sweeping the doubles to improve their record to 9-1 on the year.

CMU bounced back on Saturday morning to defeat Holy Names University 8-1. The Mavericks took an early 3-0 lead winning all three doubles matches giving up just three games in three pro-sets. CMU won five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets. The Hawks' number one player was the lone point for the Hawks in the dual. CMU allowed just six games in the five singles matches.

Sunday afternoon CMU hosted #2-ranked Cameron University. The doubles duo of Skyler Nelson and Kristyn Wykert defeated Cameron's No. 2 doubles team 8-6 over Elvira Sholles and Florencia Tornero. The Aggies held a 2-1 advantage heading into singles action. CMU dropped all six singles matches to the nationally ranked Aggies. Rachel McLaughlin dropped a close two-set match at No. 4 singles. Emily Dodson and Nicole Lessley competed strong at No. 5 and 6 singles respectively, before falling in straight sets.

CMU will host Dallas Baptist on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Elliott Tennis Center on the campus of Colorado Mesa University.
