Colorado Mesa women's tennis team fell to Division I Weber State 7-2 (6-1 DI scoring system) on Friday at Eagleridge Athletic Club in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Mavericks notched two victories in the dual match. Freshman Emily Dodson defeated Weber State's Michelle Warwick 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at number five singles.
CMU's number one doubles team, Kaylee Davis and Shannen McNamara, defeated Thais Kurer and Kristi Elmer 8-6. In Division I scoring, the team that wins 2 of the 3 doubles matches earns one team point. In Division II scoring, each doubles match is counted as one team point.
Weber State's number 2 and 3 doubles teams won by the identical score of 8-3. Skyler Nelson and Kristyn Wykert played No. 2 for the Mavs and Katie Metz and Michelle Phillips teamed up at No. 3 doubles.
Davis and McNamara played number 1 and 2 singles respectively for CMU. Davis fell 6-2, 6-2 and McNamara lost 6-2, 6-3. Wykert and Rachel McLaughlin lost at N0. 3 and 4 singles; Wykert lost 6-4, 6-3 and McLaughlin fell 6-3, 6-3. Nicole Lessley dropped her No. 6 singles match, 6-2, 6-2.
CMU will travel to Phoenix, AZ for a match up with Grand Canyon University on Friday, March 1.
