Mesa Swimming and Diving Sweeps Dual with Mines

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado Mesa won both the men's and women's dual meets at Colorado Mines Sunday (Nov. 3). The men defeated the Orediggers 124-107 while the women narrowly won 112-110.
 
Miranda Reetz capped off the weekend with a pair of wins for CMU. The Denver, native won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:16.01, the 11th fastest time in school history. Her time of 1:09.63 in the 100 breaststroke was the sixth fastest in school history.
 
The Mavericks finished 1-2 with a pair of strong swims in the 500 free. Abi Young won in a time of 5:34.84, the 16th fastest in school history, and Maddy Wig was second in 5:38.29, the 19th fastest in school history.
 
Briana Purkapile won the 1,000 free in 11:18.36, the 18th fastest time in school history, and Samantha Parker was third (12:03.93).
 
Annie Jones won the 100 free (57.96), and Marissa Bradley took top honors in the 200 free (2:00.83), with the 10th fastest time in school history.
 
Brianna Bearden was the final event winner for the Mavericks taking top honors in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.33, the 10th fastest time in school history.
 
Both the 200 medley relay (2:00.49) and the 800 free relays (8:10.37) finished second.
 
The men's team won seven events on the day, led by Brock Martin who swept both diving events. He won the 1-meter with a score of 242.02 and scored 286.12 in the 3-meter event.
 
The Mavericks finished 1-2 in the 50 free. Kent Olson-Stavrakas swam the eighth fastest time in school history (21.42) and Peter Szekely's time of 21.99 was the 15th.
 
Tyler Kaslik won the 200 fly in a time of 1:59.70, the seventh fastest time in school history. Jordan Heggen was third in 2:05.61, the 11th fast time in history for a Maverick.
 
The 200 breaststroke was another strong event for CMU. Thomas Stutzriem won in 2:12.00, the fifth fastest time in school history, and Ryan Gifford was third in 2:18.27, the 12th fastest time in school history.
 
The men also won both relays, the 200 medley relay in 1:36.16 and the 800 free relay in a time of 7:04.91.
 
The women's team will compete at Northern Colorado on Nov. 15.
