Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – Colorado Mesa scored the first two goals of the second half and held on to defeat the Fort Lewis Skyhawks 2-1 at Dirks Field. It is only the second time in the program's history they have defeated Fort Lewis with both times occurring in Durango.
Alan Hernandez got the scoring going for the Mavericks in the 51
st minute. Hernandez took a cross from
Stevie Palma and found the back of the net. It was his third goal of the season.
Just over 21 minutes later,
Legofi Crawford gave Colorado Mesa some cushion in the match. Crawford tallied an unassisted goal to give the Mavericks a 2-0 advantage. The goal was Crawford's fourth of the season.
Fort Lewis made a late run at the match when Jordan Alexander struck from just five yards out to cut into the Maverick lead to 2-1. But, it wasn't enough.
Colorado Mesa improved to 8-4-3 on the season and 6-2-3 in the RMAC while the Skyhawks fall to 8-6-1 on the year, 5-6-0 in the conference.
The Mavericks will have a short turn around as they play Adams State in Alamosa tomorrow at noon.
