The Colorado Mesa University Men's Soccer team took on the Colorado Christian Cougars on Sunday at Walker Field. The Mavericks rode three first half goals on their way to a 4-0 victory over the Cougars. With the win, the Mavericks improve to 3-2-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in the RMAC, while the Cougars fall to 1-5-0 and 0-2-0 in RMAC matches.
The scoring got started in the 19th minute when
Nestor Escobar found the back of the net. Brother
Marco Escobar assisted on the goal when he chipped a free kick into the box and Nestor found the right side of the goal. The goal was his second of the season.
Less than three minutes later, the Escobar's struck again.
Kevin Escobar found the right side of the goal in the 21st minute for his third and team leading goal of the season. Kevin took a cross from brother Marco on his goal to give Marco two assists in the match.
The Mavericks got their third goal of the match a little less than ten minutes later when
Jeremy Gwerder scored his first goal of the season. Gwerder took a pass from
Nestor Escobar, who took a pass from
Alan Hernandez on a corner kick, and found the top side of the goal. The goal gave the Mavericks a 3-0 halftime lead.
The lone second half goal came off the foot of Sophomore
Tim Hofer. Hofer dribbled through the defense and found the goal on the right side for his second of the season. The goal gave the Mavericks the decisive 4-0 advantage.
Micah Conrads and
Caleb Ealey combined for the shutout and the two made three saves.
The Mavericks will be back in action next Sunday for a showdown with the Adams State Grizzlies at Walker Field
