Mavericks Clinch RMAC CHAMPIONSHIP

            The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks clinched the RMAC Regular Season Championship with a 14-10 victory over the Colorado Mines Orediggers. Colorado Mesa has won the RMAC Regular Season Championship in 6 of the past 9 seasons but its first since 2009. The Mavericks are now winners of 26 of their past 29 games and are currently riding a 10-game winning streak.

            Nolan Snell had a rough outing but did pick up his 9th win of the season. Snell went 5.0 innings and allowed 6 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits, walked 3 and struck out 3. Snell's relief helped save the win for CMU with Kris Carlson pitching the final inning and allowing just a lone hit.

            Colton Little, Braden Box and Jeff Popick all had three hits in the game and the Mavericks combined for seven extra-base hits.

            In the nightcap, the Mavericks posted a 5-run fourth inning to secure the 8-1 victory.

            Jared Christensen allowed just a lone first inning run to pick up his 11th victory of the season. Christensen allowed just 4 hits, walked one and struck out 7. Outfielder and relief pitcher Tamatoa Demello pitched a perfect ninth to finish out the game.

            Braden Box and Jeff Popick each had three hits in the nightcap. Popick also drove in 4 runs and belted his 6th homerun of the season.

            The Mavericks moved their record to 38-10 on the season and 32-6 in the RMAC while Colorado Mines falls to 14-28, 13-25 in the RMAC. Colorado Mines is still clinging to the final spot in the RMAC tournament by just a lone game over Metro State.

            Colorado Mesa came into the contest ranked 11th by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association poll and 21st in the Coach's Poll. In the most important poll, the NCAA Regional Rankings, CMU was ranked 2nd for the 2nd consecutive week behind Minnesota State and just ahead of St. Cloud State.

            The Mavericks and Orediggers will complete their regular season's with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 11:00am.
