Mavs Open Spring Season with a Split

Colorado Mesa women's tennis team opened the 2012 spring season defeating host Dixie State College 8-1 on Saturday morning in St. George, Utah.

The Mavericks swept all three doubles matches and won 5 of 6 singles matches for their first victory of 2012. Kelleen Sera and Kaitlan Sera easily won their singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively. Shannen McNamara at No. 4 and Kristyn Wykert at No. 6 singles lost a combined three games. Kaylee Davis defeated her No. 3 singles opponent winning the third set super-tiebreak 10-7.

Saturday afternoon the Mavericks fell to Academy of Art (Calif.) by the score of 8-1. CMU's No. 3 doubles team of Skyler Nelson and Kristyn Wykert defeated their opponent 8-3 for the lone CMU point.

Next up for the Mavericks is their spring break trip to Phoenix, Ariz., for five matches including Division II and regional foe Grand Canyon University and St. Cloud State.
