Colorado Mesa softball team opened the 2012 season defeating #13-ranked Minnesota State-Mankato 3-2 at the NSIC/RMAC Crossover Tournament hosted by CSU-Pueblo.
Trailing 1-2 after five innings the Mavs scored two runs in the top of sixth for a 3-2 lead. CMU scored one run in the first inning on a two-out double by Lauren Cross, scoring Danielle Vallie (walked). Minnesota State took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run homerun with two outs. CMU answered back in the top half of the sixth and held MSU scoreless in the final two innings for the 3-2 victory.
Ashley Pulido earned her first victory allowing two runs on six hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Courtney Maihi pitched the final two innings giving up two hits, zero runs and striking out one.
CMU tallied five hits as Lauren Cross went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. Megan Smith, Lisa Pille and Shannon McClenahan each had one hit.
Minnesota State scored two runs on eight hits. Each team committed two errors in the game.
