In an overwhelming demonstration of rugby prowess the CMU women's team traveled to Logan and delivered a crushing 103-0 loss to Utah State University. Notable was the fact that 12 individual CMU players scored, including six who achieved their first trys of their rugby careers; Torie Slagle, Kayla Norton, Katie Wright, Ashley Martin, Jessica Willis, Jackie Stults.
The rout began when props Sarah McManus and Kristin Star returned the opening kickoff for a try. Jackie Stults was named the Player of the Match for her relentless play. "This was a true full team effort," said CMU Rugby Head Coach Randy Lewis. "We played multiple-phase rugby expertly, and minimized the penalties. Even our most inexperienced players got considerable playing time. Solid defensive play and open field tackling contributed to this victory more than any other factor."
With the shutout CMU improves to 1-1on the season. Next up for the Mavericks is a home field rematch with Utah State University on Oct 27th at Dixson Field in Grand Junction.
