Colorado Mesa women's tennis team opened the 2011 fall season on the road in Pueblo this weekend. CMU played three non-conference matches against Fort Hays State, Emporia State and RMAC foe, Metro State.
The Mavericks posted a 1-2 record defeating the Tigers from Ft. Hays State, 8-1. Friday morning CMU got off to a great start sweeping all three doubles matches for a 3-0 heading in to singles action. Seniors Kelleen Sera and Kaitlan Sera each won in straight sets at number 1 and 2 singles respectively. Kaylee Davis, Kristyn Wykert and Nicole Lessley posted victories at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles.
Friday afternoon Emporia State held on for a 5-4 win to drop the Mavs to 1-1. CMU won two of the three doubles matches and fell in a tight match at number 3 doubles before falling 9-7. ESU took four of the six singles matches to clinch the dual. Number 2 Kaitlan Sera and number 3 Kaylee Davis won their respective matches in straight sets.
CMU closed out the weekend Saturday morning falling 5-4 to Metro State. The Roadrunners won 2 of the 3 doubles matches. The Sera sisters defeated Metro's number 1 doubles team 8-5. CMU swept the top three singles matches (Kelleen Sera, Kaitlan Sera, Kaylee Davis) each in straight sets. Metro squeezed out the win with victories at number 4, 5 and 6 singles.
Colorado Mesa will return to action this weekend as they travel to Kearney, NE. The Mavericks will play the Lopers in a dual match Thursday before competing in the ITA Regional Tournament. The ITA will run Friday through Sunday in Kearney.
