Mavericks Sweep Doubleheader

The Mesa State Mavericks swept a doubleheader from the Colorado Mines Orediggers by scores of 10-5 and 6-5. By winning both games, Mesa State claimed the Mountain Division title along with the #2 seed in the RMAC Tournament next week at Suplizio Field.

In game one, Dylan Evans pitched 8.1 innings and kept the Mines hitters off balance while the Mavericks scored ten runs on ten hits and only left eight runners on base en route to the 10-5 win.

Evans allowed four runs on eight scattered hits, walked no one and struck out four. Evans improved his record to 6-3.

Eight Mavericks had at least one hit and two had multiple hits. Leadoff batter Braden Box and left fielder Jeff Popick each had two hits in the game.

In the series finale, Chase Moore delivered a two-out pinch hit walk off single in the bottom of the seventh to break a 5-5 tie and give the Mavericks the Saturday sweep.

Colton Little led the Maverick hitters with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.

Lefty Tim Moore got the start for the Mavericks and pitched well. Moore went 6.0 innings and allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits, walked no one and struck out six in a no decision. Taylor Hamilton came in relief and picked up the win, pitching a scoreless seventh.

The RMAC Tournament begins this Wednesday and the Mavericks will play 5th seeded Regis at Suplizio Field at 7:00pm.
