Mavs fall at NCAA National Tennis Championships

Abilene Christian defeats MSC 5-0

Mesa State women's tennis team fell to No. 6-ranked Abilene Christian 5-0 at the NCAA Division II National Tennis Championships Wednesday night in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Abilene Christian swept the doubles action allowing just two games in the three pro-set matches. The Wildcats' 3-0 lead heading in to singles action had the Mavericks needing to win five of the six singles match-ups to advance. MSC's number one doubles team of Kelleen Sera and Kaitlan Sera saw their 19-match doubles win streak snapped by ACU.

ACU sealed the win with singles victories at number four and five to secure the 5-0 victory and advance to the quarterfinal round. Hannah Kelley beat Cyndle Curfman at number five singles and Micah Hermsdorf defeated Kate Lowder at number four to clinch the dual. The remaining matches were in the second sets with the Wildcats holding a set up advantage in each of the four matches.

MSC's season comes to an end as the Mavericks fall to 23-10 overall. The 2011 season marks the first time in school history the women's team advanced to the NCAA DII National Tennis Championships final 16 tournament.
