The Mesa State Mavericks opened the RMAC Baseball Tournament with a 5-2 win over the Regis Rangers. Maverick Lefty Jared Christensen pitched a complete game seven hitter and earned his seventh victory of the season. Christensen (7-3) allowed two runs and struck out seven while walking no one.
Brian Bello finished the game 3-for-4 and blasted his sixth homerun of the season in the fourth inning. Dusty Fackrell hit his third homerun of the season in the fifth inning, a two-run shot to left field.
Ranger Jon Shoutta hit his league leading 16th homerun of the season in the ninth inning.
The Mavericks will take on the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves in a winners bracket semifinal tomorrow night at 7:00pm at Suplizio Field.
