Mavericks Sweep Doubleheader

 

The Mesa State Maverick baseball team swept a RMAC doubleheader from the visiting Colorado Christian Cougars. The Mavericks won by scores of 6-4 and 3-0 and improved their season record to 21-11 and 19-7 in the RMAC.

In the first game, Mesa State scored six runs on twelve hits en route to a 6-4 victory. The Mavericks scored single runs in the first and fourth innings and two runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Nolan Snell pitched eight innings and allowed four runs on five hits, walked three and struck out ten to earn the win. Snell (5-2) kept  his lead in the RMAC in strikeouts (66) and is second in ERA (2.86).

Chase Moore finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Ryan Shelton finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored to pace the Maverick offense.

In the night cap, Jared Christensen needed just an hour and twenty-four minutes to pitch a complete game shutout and give the Mavericks a 3-0 victory. Christensen allowed six hits, no walks, and struck out nine to earn his fourth victory of the season.

Ryan Shelton finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Greg Anderson went 2-for-3  with a run scored and an RBI to give the Mavericks all they would need.

The Mavericks and Cougars will complete their series tomorrow. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1:00pm.
