The Mesa State Mavericks dropped the final game of the two game series but managed to win the series from the top team in the RMAC. Mesa State lost 7-3 to Nebraska Kearney are now just a half a game back of the Lopers. Their record now stands at 19-11 and 17-7 in the RMAC.
Tyler Ehlers made his second start of the season and took the loss. Ehlers, 0-1 on the season, went 3.2 innings and allowed five runs on four hits, walked five and struck out four. Tim Moore came in relief in the sixth inning and finished with three perfect innings as he retired all nine batters he faced.
Maverick catcher Austin Wallingford got his first collegiate hit in the third inning, a single to right center. Wallingford finished the game 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk.
Colton Little and Greg Anderson each finished the game with two hits. Little finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Anderson went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.
The Mavericks will finish the Plains Division swing next weekend as they will take on the Colorado Christian Cougars at Suplizio Field. Fridays game is scheduled to be a doubleheader and will begin at 3:30pm.
