Box Score Mesa State (16-7, 12-7) held off the Mustangs (12-14, 12-7) Saturday night in Silver City in a 56-54 victory in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
Colton Burgon paved the way with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Four Mavericks registered double-digits led by Colton's 14 points. Nate Nelson and Kalonji Paschal each tallied 11 and Russell Gregory finished with 10 points.
Lance Fite led all players with 11 rebounds and added six points.
MSC trailed by eight at half (16-24) but out-scored the Mustangs 40-30 in the second half.
Mesa State opened the second half on a 12-6 run to pull to within two points (28-30). MSC tied the game (34-34) on a Colton Burgon jumper with 12:14 left in the game. Nate Nelson's layup on the next possession gave the Mavs their first lead in the game since the six minute mark of the first half.
MSC's eight point lead with 2:40 remaining was cut to just two points with a Mustang 6-0 run with 38-seconds left. Mesa State held on for the victory and extends their win streak to four.
The Mavericks will travel to Western State for the final regular season road game Saturday in Gunnison.
