Colorado Mesa (5-2, 3-0) men's basketball team beat Western New Mexico (1-5, 1-2) 71-57 Friday night in RMAC action in Silver City, N.M.
Michael Bear finished with a team high 18 points, hitting 10 of 10 from the foul line and 4 of 8 from the field. Bear had four blocked shots, three rebounds and two steals in 23 minutes of action.
Jeff Hart recorded is first double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Shawn King had 10 points and eight rebounds and Mike Melillo led all players with a game high 11 boards. Melillo finished with eight points, three assists and one steal.
CMU led 31-21 at halftime and outscored the Mustangs 11-4 on second chance points. CMU never trailed in the entire game.
Michael Bear's jumper at the 15:05 mark in the second half gave the Mavericks an 11-point lead (37-26) and CMU would maintain the double-digit lead the remainder of the contest.
CMU held a 50-34 rebound margin and despite turning the ball over 24 times the Mavericks forced 19 Mustang turnovers. CMU posted a season high eight blocked shots.
WNMU was led by Chad Carter's game high 23 points.
CMU will play at New Mexico Highlands on Saturday night in Las Vegas, N.M. Tip-off is set for 8 pm.
