Box Score Mesa State fell to visiting Western State College 68-55 Saturday night in Brownson Arena. The loss drops the Mavs to 11-4 overall and 7-4 in league action. Western State improved to 4-12 overall and 3-8 in RMAC play. The Mountaineers led from start to finish.
Kalonji Paschal led all players with 24 points hitting 7 of 13 from the field including four treys.
Lance Fite finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
John Gabriel pulled down a game high eight rebounds and finished with six points. Gabriel was 3 for 4 from the field.
Jeff Hart recorded seven rebounds and added three points and two assists.
MSC trailed 22-30 at half shooting just 29.2 percent (7-24) from the floor. Western State shot 46.2 percent (12-26) in the first half. The Mavs 22-first half points ties their season low.
Western State opened the second half with a 3-pointer and held a double digit lead through the first 10 minutes of the half. MSC cut the deficit to single digits on a lay-up by Colton Burgon at 9:20 remaining in regulation. The Mavericks came as close as eight points (53-61) with 2:25 left but the Mountaineers closed out the game with a 7-2 run.
MSC shot 34.6 percent (18-52) from the floor and 26.3 (5-19) from the 3-point line. Mesa State turned the ball over 10 times and finished with six assists.
WSC shot 49 percent (24-49) from the field and hit 10 of 21 treys (47.6%). Western State turned the ball over just four times, all in the second half and registered nine assists.
Western State was led by Weylan Towns' 17 points. Casey Jackson finished with 11 points off the bench.
Mesa State will host Colorado Mines Friday night at 8 p.m.
