Mavs host Western New Mexico Friday at 3

Mavs split weekend road duals

MSC women's tennis team split four dual matches as the team opened up RMAC action. MSC won 2 of the 3 conference matches and dropped a non-conference match with Grand Canyon University.

 

Friday MSC defeated CSU-Pueblo 6-3 in their first conference match this spring. The Mavs won 2 of the 3 doubles matches and 4 of the 6 singles matches. Victoria Sargent (#3), Kelleen Sera (#4), Amber Armendarez (#5) and Cyndle Curfman were all victorious winning in straight sets.

 

In a non-conference match-up with Grand Canyon the Mavs fell to the Lopers 5-4 winning 2 of the 3 doubles pro-sets and two singles matches. MSC held a 2-1 lead heading in to singles play and were only able to score wins by Victoria Sargent and Kaitlan Sera.

 

Associate RMAC member Montana State Billings met up with MSC in Lakewood Saturday morning where the Mavs bounced back with a 5-4 win over the Yellow jackets.

 

MSC closed out the busy weekend dropping a 7-2 decision to Neb.-Kearney Saturday afternoon in Lakewood. MSC's Kaitlan Sera scored both points for the team winning at number 4 singles and teaming with sister, Kelleen for the win at number 2 doubles.

 

Kaitlan went undefeated over the weekend winning all four singles in straight sets. She was leading 4-0 in the first set over UNK's Claire Bryan when Bryan was forced to retire with an injury. Kaitlan and sister Kelleen posted a 4-0 mark at number 2 doubles.

 

MSC will host Western New Mexico Friday afternoon on campus at the Elliott Tennis Center at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon MSC will host Metro State at 2:30 p.m. Prior to the match Saturday the Maverick Club will host a tennis tailgate starting at 1 p.m.
