Five Mavs named RMAC All-Conference

MSC takes second at conference tournament

RMAC All-Conference Teams

Mesa State women's tennis team had five players on the RMAC All-Conference teams announced by the league office.

Kelleen Sera was named All-RMAC First Team singles and named second team doubles with twin sister Kaitlan. The sophomore duo from Lahaina, Hawaii have helped the Mavericks to a second place finish at the RMAC Tournament held Friday and Saturday at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center in Albuquerque, N.M.

Kelleen posted a 14-13 overall record at #1 and 19-6 at #2 doubles. Her 19 wins with Kaitlan are a team high.

Kaitlan was named All-RMAC Second Team singles for her outstanding play at #4 singles. She posted a 20-2 record, most singles wins by a Maverick and is currently on a 13 match win streak.

Junior Victoria Sargent was named second team singles (#3) with a 15-7 mark. Sargent is on a four match win streak and 7-3 over her last 10 matches.

Senior Amber Armendarez (#5 singles) earned a spot on the Third Team. She is 15-8 in singles and tied for second on the team with most singles victories. Armendarez and partner Cyndle Curfman were named Third Team All-Conference in doubles (#3). The duo is 12-9 overall. 

Mesa State advanced to the finals of the RMAC Tournament held Friday and Saturday at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center in Albuquerque, N.M. The Mavs, seeded #2 in the tournament, defeated Colorado Christian 7-2 in the quarterfinals and advanced to the finals with a 6-1 win over #3 seed Western New Mexico.

Saturday morning in the finals MSC fell to #1 seed Neb.-Kearney 5-3.  

MSC finished second in the regular season standings at 4-1. Neb.-Kearney clinched the regular season title (6-0) and the RMAC tournament title.

The Mavericks are ranked #4 in the latest Central Region rankings and will find out Thursday if they will move up in the rankings and host a regional match or travel. The top two teams in the region will host.
