Mavs beat Mustangs 6-3

Mesa women defeated visiting Western New Mexico University 6-3 in their first home match this spring Friday afternoon on the campus of Mesa State College.

MSC held a 2-1 advantage winning at number 2 and 3 doubles to start the dual. Kelleen and Kaitlan Sera extended their doubles win streak to seven with an 8-5 win at number 2 doubles. The Mavs number 3 doubles team of Amber Armendarez and Cyndle Curfman won 8-6 for the 2-1 lead.

The Sera sisters pushed MSC's lead to 4-1 with straight set victories at number 1 (Kelleen) and 4 (Kaitlan) singles respectively.

Victoria Sargent clinched the dual victory with a 7-6 (1), 6-1 win over WNMU's number 4 player Emily Lampman.

Armendarez posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at number 5 singles.

WNMU posted wins at number 2 singles and number 6 for its two singles points.

MSC will host Metro State Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The Maverick Club will host a tailgate party prior to the match beginning at 1 p.m.
