The Maverick Baseball team completed its first series sweep of the season on Saturday. Mesa State defeated Colorado Christian by scores of 12-2 and 16-0. They now sit at 9-8 on the season and 5-4 in RMAC play.
In Game One, Sophomore Kyle Davis pitched a complete game in a 12-2 win. Davis finished allowing 10 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Davis' record moved to 3-0 with the win.
Junior Greg Anderson and Sophomore Chase Moore led the way offensively. Anderson finished 4-for-5 with 2 RBI's and Moore finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBI's.
Sophomore Jeff Popick hit his 2nd homerun of the season, a shot into the left field bleachers.
In the nightcap, Senior Chris Shea pitched the Mavericks 3rd complete game of the weekend in a 16-0 shutout of the Cougars. Shea finished allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. Shea's record improved to 2-2 on the season.
Sophomore Chase Moore had a huge game at the plate. He finished 4-for-4 with six RBI's and 2 homeruns. Moore's first homerun, a two-run shot, cleared the left field wall in a hurry. His second was in grand fashion. With the bases loaded in 4th, Moore sent the pitch over the left field wall once again.
The Mavericks will be at home once again this weekend against the Regis Rangers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm on Friday at Suplizio Field.
