Ashbaugh records season high 17 points and 7 rebounds

#14 Mavs top Western New Mexico 76-62

Jase Herl grabs 20 rebounds - second all-time single game high

Mesa State 17-1, 11-0 RMAC) men extended their win streak to eight and remain perfect at home (7-0) beating Western New Mexico 76-62 at Brownson Arena Thursday evening.

Senior Jase Herl pulled down 20 rebounds,  second all-time single game record, and recorded his second double-double of the season with 16 points. Herl finished with six assists in 30 minutes of action.

 

Mike Dominguez led all players with 21 points including 17-second half points. Dominguez had four assists and four rebounds.

 

Justin Ashbaugh played his best game of the season scoring 17 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Ashbaugh had two blocked shots and a steal. Ashbaugh was averaging just less than 17 minutes of action and averaging 2.6 points per game. Thursday night he played 30 minutes and recorded a season high points (17) and rebounds (7). He was 7 for 10 from the floor and 3 for 4 from the foul line.

 

Ryan Mortensen had six assists.

 

MSC led 35-26 at half and extended the lead to 11 points early in the second period. The Mavericks never trailed in the second half, holding off Western New Mexico when the Mustangs pulled to within one point with 9:25 remaining in regulation (49-50). MSC closed out the final three minutes with a 13-2 run.

 

MSC will host Fort Lewis College next Friday at 8 p.m. and entertain Adams State on Saturday night. Tip-off for Saturday's game with Adams State is slated for 7 p.m.
