Mesa State women's tennis team defeated visiting CSU-Pueblo 8-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday night at the Grand Junction Tennis Center indoor facility. The win improved the Mavericks to 10-2 in Division II play and 2-0 in RMAC action.
MSC swept the doubles action, winning at number one and two doubles while dropping just a combined three games. MSC won by default at number three doubles.
CSU-Pueblo's lone point came at number one singles in a three set win for the T-Wolves Julie Wainwright. Wainwright won the first set 6-1 over MSC's number one, Kate Lowder. Sophomore Lowder fought back to take the second set 6-4, before falling 10-8 in the super tiebreak third set.
Victoria Sargent (#2), Renee Demianew (#3), Kaitlan Sera (#4) and Kelleen Sera (#5) all won in straight sets. MSC allowed just seven games in the four singles matches. CSU-Pueblo as forced to default at number six singles.
MSC was scheduled to play Colorado Christian this weekend but due to a spring storm the match was canceled and will be rescheduled at a later date.
The Mavericks will travel to Pueblo next weekend for key RMAC matches. MSC will face Western New Mexico, Montana State Billings and CSU-Pueblo.
